Her research interests lie at the intersection of sociology, law, and social justice, with a strong emphasis on ethnographic methods. She investigates how activists contest racialized policing in France, particularly through legal mobilization and public discourse. Her current book project explores activist knowledge production and its impact on public and political debates about justice and equality.
The recent publications highlight a consistent focus on policing practices in France, including racial profiling, the management of 'undesirables' in public spaces, and the epistemic authority of police institutions. Her work spans ethnography, legal analysis, and policy-oriented research, often contributing to public institutions like the French Defender of Rights.
Magda Boutros teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in sociology, including Inquiries in Sociology and Qualitative Methods II: Ethnography. She is actively involved in doctoral training and research supervision. Her collaborative projects reflect engagement with interdisciplinary teams and policy stakeholders.
Notable contributions include research on antiracism in France, legal challenges to racialized policing, and comparative analyses of police violence mobilizations. Her work appears in leading journals such as Social Problems, Law and Society Review, and Theoretical Criminology.
