Haley McAvay is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and is affiliated with the Sciences Po Center for Research on Social Inequalities. She is also a Research Officer at the Institut national d’études démographiques (INED), where she contributes to research on migration and ethno-racial inequalities.
Her research centers on migration, social stratification, urban studies, race/ethnicity, discrimination, and political behavior, using quantitative methods. Key areas include ethno-racial categorization, residential segregation, socio-spatial mobility, and intergenerational inequalities, with a focus on France.
Her publications in journals such as Demography, Urban Studies, and Population, Space and Place reveal a consistent focus on how structural and spatial factors reproduce inequality across generations. She examines long-term neighborhood exposure, immigrant integration, and desegregation trends, contributing significantly to the understanding of urban inequality in Europe.
