Marta Castilho da Silva is a Global Arts and Humanities Discovery Theme Postdoctoral Fellow at The Ohio State University. Her research focuses on Indigenous communities in Brazil, particularly the Dourados Indigenous Reserve in Mato Grosso do Sul, where she investigates cultural preservation, environmental sustainability, and healthcare access.
Her work emphasizes the role of medicinal plants and traditional knowledge systems, including projects like the Indigenous Women’s Association’s medicinal gardens. She addresses challenges such as water scarcity, pesticide contamination, and wildfires exacerbated by agribusiness. Recent efforts include expanding the Guateka School’s infrastructure to support community education and resource management.
Marta’s research intersects environmental anthropology, public health, and policy, with a focus on marginalized Indigenous populations. She collaborates with local leaders like Lenir Flores de Paiva and advocates for sustainable solutions to ecological crises.
