Marta Cartabia is a Full Professor of Italian and European Constitutional Law at Bocconi University's Department of Law, affiliated with the School of Law and the Global Law Bachelor program. She previously served as President of the Italian Constitutional Court (now in an emeritus role). Her academic career includes a PhD in Law from the European University Institute (1993) and a Law degree from the University of Milan (1987, magna cum laude).
Her research focuses on constitutional law theory, adjudication processes, fundamental rights, rule of law principles, and justice systems. Key publications include analyses of Italy's constitutional framework, historical legal influences, and comparative constitutional studies. She co-edits Quaderni costituzionali and the Italian Journal of Public Law, and holds leadership roles in international legal organizations such as the International Society of Public Law (ICON·S).
Her work bridges historical legal scholarship with contemporary constitutional challenges, emphasizing contextual interpretation and the evolution of legal frameworks. Recent publications address future-oriented constitutional reform, transitional justice narratives, and medieval legal influences on modern governance.
