Marni Berger is an Adjunct Professor of English at the University of Southern Maine (USM), affiliated with the Department of English in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. She teaches ENG 100 College Writing, ENG 102 Academic Writing, and ENG 201 Creative Writing. Previously, she taught creative writing at Columbia University and first-year writing at Manhattanville College. Since 2009, she has served as a writing tutor in academic and private settings, most recently at the Maine College of Art.
Her education includes an MFA in Writing from Columbia University (2012) and a BA in Human Ecology from the College of the Atlantic (2009). Berger’s research and creative work focus on fiction, creative nonfiction, and essays on parenthood. Her short story Edge of the Road with Lydia Jones was nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and her fiction has been recognized in multiple Glimmer Train and New Millennium Writings contests.
Her writing appears in journals such as The Carolina Quarterly, The Common, Motherwell, and Barnstorm Journal. She is currently working on a novel.
Awards and recognitions include the Pushcart Prize nomination and finalist status in nine Glimmer Train contests. Berger’s creative work explores themes of parenthood, regional identity (particularly in Maine), and narrative innovation.
