
Marlin C. Barber

Dr. Marlin C. Barber is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History at Missouri State University, specializing in 19th century Black American history, slavery, and post-emancipation Black educational autonomy. He joined the faculty in 2012 and teaches courses such as HST 121, HST 210, and HST 345. His current research examines Black communities' use of schools as pillars of post-Civil War society. Dr. Barber holds a PhD in U.S. History (2011, University of Missouri), MA in U.S. History (2005, University of Houston–Clear Lake), and earlier degrees in Mass Communications and History.
Professional Affiliations: Faculty advisor for the African Students Association, academic advisor for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Board Member of the Greene County Archives Foundation, NAACP Springfield Chapter member, and Steering Committee member of the Missouri Conference on History. His research interests also include African American social institutions and Southern rural studies.
Awards: Recognized with the Clear Lake Endowment Scholarship (2005) and History Department Service Award (2005).
