Prof. Markus Verne is a Professor of Anthropology with a focus on aesthetics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. His research explores aesthetic experiences, popular music (particularly in Madagascar and West Africa), and historical anthropological theories. He holds a PhD on consumption and scarcity in Niger and has been researching Malagasy popular music since 2006. His work integrates existential anthropology to analyze how music shapes social and individual practices.
