معرفی
Prof. Markus Stoffel is a Full Professor and Chair for Climate Impacts and Risks in the Anthropocene (C-CIA) at the University of Geneva's Department F.-A. Forel for Environmental and Aquatic Sciences. He leads the Swiss Tree-Ring Lab (dendrolab.ch), a globally recognized facility specializing in tree-ring analysis to study environmental and climatic processes. His research spans climate change impacts, natural hazards, and interdisciplinary collaboration, with a focus on integrating physical and social sciences.
Education
- Habilitation thesis (venia docendi), Institute of Geological Sciences, University of Bern (2011)
- PhD thesis, Dept. Geosciences, University of Fribourg (2005)
- MSc in Geosciences/Geography, University of Fribourg (1999)
Research Focus
Stoffel's work addresses climate change drivers and impacts across timescales, including cryosphere dynamics, snow/avalanche hazards, and climate adaptation strategies. His lab employs innovative methods like UAVs and satellite imagery alongside traditional dendrochronology, fostering transdisciplinary teams from geosciences to humanities.
Funding & Collaborations
He has secured ~21 million CHF in project funding globally, emphasizing international networks. His team includes 30+ researchers across disciplines, addressing topics from volcanic climate impacts to hydropower vulnerability.
Labs/Teams
Director of dendrolab.ch, which combines cutting-edge geospatial tools with historical climate proxy data. Collaborates on global initiatives like the IPCC and integrates risk management with societal resilience strategies.
