معرفی
Dr. Gerhard Helle is a Senior Scientist and Head of the Dendrolaboratory at the Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences GFZ (Section 4.6 Geomorphology) in Potsdam, Germany, and affiliated with the Department of Paleontology at Freie Universität Berlin. His career spans over two decades in stable isotope studies applied to tree-ring analysis for climate and environmental reconstructions. Helle leads research on high-resolution isotope methodologies, climate signals in tree rings, and natural climate variability across the late Glacial/Holocene and Common Era. He has pioneered work on tropical dendroclimatology and South American climate studies through collaborations with institutions in Chile and Argentina.
He holds a Ph.D. in Geosciences from the University of Münster (1997) and has held postdoctoral and research leadership roles at Jülich Research Centre and the University of Münster. Helle teaches advanced dendrochronology courses at FU Berlin, including 'Introduction to Dendroclimatology' since 2016. His research integrates stable isotope techniques with fieldwork across Europe, Asia, and South America, contributing to global climate reconstructions and interdisciplinary studies on hydroclimate variability, seasonal climate dynamics, and tree physiology responses to environmental stressors.
Helle’s work has produced over 100 peer-reviewed publications, including high-impact studies on European hydroclimate trends, Amazon Basin isotopic records, and the application of tree-ring data to understand anthropogenic climate impacts. He is a founding member and treasurer of the Association for Tree-ring Research (ATR), reflecting his leadership in dendrochronological sciences.
