Professor Markus Seibel holds the Chair in Endocrinology at the University of Sydney and directs the ANZAC Research Institute’s Bone Research Program. His roles include academic leadership in musculoskeletal health and clinical endocrinology at the Concord Clinical School. He has secured over AU$20 million in research funding from national and international agencies, including NHMRC, ARC, and the German Research Council.
Education and Research Focus: Prof. Seibel’s work centers on bone physiology/pathophysiology, cancer metastasis to bone, glucocorticoid effects on bone and metabolism, and osteoporosis. He has published over 400 papers in high-impact journals like NEJM, Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, and JBMR, and edited influential textbooks such as Dynamics of Bone and Cartilage Metabolism (Academic Press).
Current Projects: Ongoing studies include glucocorticoid impacts on bone/fat metabolism, skeletal cancer metastasis mechanisms, and the Concord Fracture Liaison Service’s secondary fracture prevention model. Collaborations span institutions like Harvard, Yale, and universities in Germany, China, and Hong Kong.
Awards & Recognition: His leadership roles include ANZBMS President (2013–2015) and Chair of the National Alliance for Secondary Fracture Prevention. His research has received international accolades including the Endocrine Society Outstanding Abstract Award (2017).
Labs & Teams: Leads multidisciplinary teams at ANZAC Research Institute and collaborates with clinical/research groups globally to translate findings into clinical practice through programs like the CHAMP study on male health.
