Markus Reisenleitner is a Professor of Humanities at York University, Canada, and Director of the Graduate Program in Communication and Culture. He holds a Dr.phil. from the University of Vienna and has held academic positions at institutions including Lingnan University (Hong Kong) and the University of Alberta. His primary research focuses on intersections of digital humanities, urban imaginaries, fashion studies, and cultural memory.
Reisenleitner's academic service includes roles as Past President of the Canadian Comparative Literature Association (2013–2015), Graduate Program Director in Humanities (2010–2015), and Chair of the Department of Cultural Studies at Lingnan University (2004–2006). He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Imaginations: Journal of Cross-Cultural Image Studies.
His research explores how cities like Vienna, Los Angeles, and Toronto are shaped by digital technologies, fashion, and cultural narratives. Key works include Wiener Chic (2013) and LA Chic (2018), examining locational fashion histories. Recent studies address algorithmic urbanism, tech demos as cultural events, and sustainable scholar-led publishing practices.
Reisenleitner’s interdisciplinary approach bridges cultural history and contemporary digital practices. He actively critiques global knowledge economies and advocates for open access publishing. His teaching includes graduate courses on humanities methodologies and communication studies.
