Markus Gunneflo is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at Lund University's Department of Law. He serves as Project Coordinator at the Centre for Environmental and Climate Science (CEC) and is affiliated with the LU Profile Area: Human Rights. His roles include managing the Master's programme in International Human Rights Law and coordinating the Agenda 2030 Graduate School. He teaches across multiple disciplines including International Human Rights Law (IHRL), International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and interdisciplinary programmes in Peace and Conflict Studies, Gender Studies, and History.
His research focuses on international law theory/history, TWAIL, use of force, armed conflict law, human rights, migration, and sustainable development. Notable contributions include works on legal imagination in digital contexts, transnational data governance, and historical critiques of colonial legal frameworks. Gunneflo supervises doctoral research exploring sovereignty in Central Europe and Indonesia's legal independence struggles.
Key achievements include receiving the 2015 Olga och Thorild Dahlgrens fond award. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to justice, peace, and sustainable communities.
