Associate Professor Dr. Markus Raasch is a historian at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, specializing in Contemporary History. His work spans social history, mentalities, nobility research, Catholicism, gender, and the history of National Socialism. He currently directs the DFG project Military Youth Education in the First World War and co-leads the research group Parents and Children in War.

Research Priorities: Raasch examines social history from the 19th to 21st centuries, focusing on cultural practices, nobility's political roles, Catholic communities, gender dynamics, and children's experiences in wartime. Recent Publications include studies on Nazi-era notaries, postwar school policy, and the cooperative movement. Themes integrate regional history with broader socio-political shifts, particularly in Rhineland-Palatinate.
