Markus Lampe is Professor of Economic and Social History at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna), where he has served since 2015 as Head of the Institute for Economic and Social History. His academic journey includes previous positions at Universidad Carlos III Madrid (Associate Professor), University of Copenhagen, and University of Münster. Currently, he is also Visiting Professor at the University of Gothenburg (2024-2027).
Lampe's research explores historical economic systems through several key lenses:
- International trade policy evolution and bilateral trade networks
- Agricultural transformations in 19th-century Denmark
- Development of global communication infrastructures
- Real estate market dynamics in historical contexts
