Markus Fraundorfer is an Associate Professor of Global Governance at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the School of Politics and International Studies. He serves as Programme Director for the MA Global Governance & Diplomacy. His research focuses on global governance dynamics, including global justice, climate change, and Brazilian foreign policy. Fraundorfer holds a PhD from the University of Hamburg, an MRes from the University of Manchester, and a Magister Artium from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.
Research Interests: Fraundorfer’s work addresses global systemic challenges such as democratic deficits, environmental crises, and transboundary threats. He examines Brazil’s evolving role in global governance through its contributions to health, energy, and internet policy. His current projects include studies on neglected tropical diseases governance and regional policy cooperation in South America.
Publications: Notable works include *Global Governance in the Age of the Anthropocene* (2022), *Rethinking Global Democracy in Brazil* (2018), and the co-edited volume *South American Policy Regionalism* (2024). These explore themes like climate policy, democratic innovations, and regional solutions to global challenges.
Academic Leadership: Fraundorfer has held visiting positions at institutions such as the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and the University of Brasília. He supervises PhD students in global governance, global health, and Latin American regionalism. His research emphasizes equitable governance frameworks for addressing planetary-scale challenges.
