Markus Dürmuth is an Assistant Professor and head of the Mobile Security group at Ruhr University Bochum's Faculty of Computer Science. His research focuses on usable security and privacy, particularly in password-based authentication, risk-based authentication, and privacy perception by end-users. He has conducted extensive studies on mobile device security and health-related apps.

His research includes analyzing password strength meters, smartphone authentication mechanisms, and Covid-related digital security tools. Recent work explores data trustee models and smart home authentication. He teaches courses on Usable Security and Privacy and Wireless Network Security.
