Dr. Nicholas Micallef is a Lecturer in Computer Science at Swansea University's Faculty of Science and Engineering. His research addresses misinformation propagation, usable security, and mobile authentication, with focus on cross-platform multimodal misinformation analysis and privacy-enhancing technologies.
At NYU Abu Dhabi, he developed counter-misinformation frameworks using data-driven approaches. His work on smartphone authentication leverages mobile sensing to improve usability. Dr. Micallef received the Best Paper Award at AppLens 2018 for work on smartphone app interactions.
Current projects examine AI-assisted misinformation detection and human-AI interfaces for online grooming prevention. He collaborates with social media platforms to implement privacy safeguards and develops educational tools for media literacy.
