Markus C. Becker

Markus C. Becker is a Professor in Strategic Organization Design at the Department of Business & Management, Faculty of Business and Social Sciences, University of Southern Denmark. He is affiliated with the Strategic Organization Design (SOD) VIP and the Digital Democracy Centre. His research focuses on organizational routines, adaptation, and learning in organizations, with significant contributions to understanding how routines create both stability and change in organizational contexts.

He has made significant theoretical contributions to routine theory, including seminal reviews and frameworks for empirical research. His recent work extends into digital twins of organizations, examining how digital representations can inform organization design theory and practice. His research bridges management theory, evolutionary economics, and information systems.

Professor Becker has supervised more than 50 Master's theses and served as principal supervisor for 2 PhD students with a second supervisor role for 1 additional PhD student. His research has received significant funding, including a 3-year research project on innovation routines (2005-2008) from the Agence Nationale de Recherche (ANR) as part of the Young Researcher Program, where he served as principal investigator. He currently supervises the active PhD project "Understanding DAOs challenges and opportunities for contrasting climate change" (2024-2027).

Becker is affiliated with the Strategic Organization Design (SOD) research unit at the University of Southern Denmark and maintains connections with international research networks focused on organizational routines, evolutionary economics, and digital organization design. He has co-organized multiple workshops on organization routines and served on the organizing committee of the DRUID Conference since 2011, demonstrating sustained engagement with the scholarly community.
