Marketa Burnett

Dr. Marketa Burnett is an Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut, affiliated with the Human Development and Family Sciences department and Africana Studies. She focuses on Black girls' identity development, STEM persistence, parental socialization, and racial stereotypes. Her work integrates critical race theory and intersectionality to address systemic inequities in education and family dynamics.

She explores how parental socialization mitigates discrimination and fosters resilience. Key themes include Black family processes, gendered racial stereotypes, and STEM identity formation.

Grants & Advising: She is accepting graduate students for Fall 2025 and leads the NC/SC Black Church Study (www.blackchurchresearch.org). Her research has been published in journals like Developmental Psychology and Journal of Research on Adolescence.
