He holds a B.A. from Hiram College (1972) and an M.S. and Sc.D. from Harvard University. His research focuses on epidemiology and international health, with an emphasis on malaria elimination, infectious disease dynamics, and public health policy.
Wilson has held significant roles including Chair of the National Research Council Panel on Human Health and Security, Chair of the Study Group on Global Change and Infectious Diseases, and membership in the Institute of Medicine Panel on Emerging Microbial Threats. His work bridges epidemiological research with policy implementation, particularly in low-resource settings.
His recent studies investigate barriers to malaria treatment access in Malawi, genotyping of Anopheles blood meals, and the role of school-based interventions in reducing malaria transmission. He has contributed to understanding the intersection of climate, ecology, and disease spread, emphasizing context-specific solutions for global health challenges.
Wilson’s research also explores non-malarial topics like Burkitt lymphoma epidemiology, dietary interventions in Ghana, and medicinal plant use during pregnancy. His interdisciplinary approach integrates social, environmental, and biomedical factors to address complex health issues.
His awards reflect his leadership in shaping health security agendas and advancing global health equity through rigorous epidemiological analysis and policy-oriented research.
