Mark Watson

Mark Watson is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in advanced laparoscopy and robotic surgical techniques. He focuses on minimally invasive procedures including gastroesophageal reflux correction, hernia repair, and bariatric surgery like Lap-Band. He joined UT Southwestern in 2002 after completing his medical degree at Washington University in St. Louis and residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

His research emphasizes improving patient care through robotic technology and laparoscopic innovations. He co-authored the Lap-Band Companion Handbook and contributes to medical journals. Professional affiliations include committee membership with the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), consultant roles for the American Board of Surgery Certifying Exam, and membership in the American College of Surgeons (ACS). He previously served as president of the North Texas Chapter of the ACS.
