Jennifer S. Schwartz

Jennifer S. Schwartz, MD, MBOE, FACS is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Yale School of Medicine. She completed her medical education at SUNY Upstate Medical University (MD, 2009) and earned her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from Vanderbilt University (BS, 2005). Dr. Schwartz completed her general surgical residency and minimally invasive surgical fellowship at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Dr. Schwartz specializes in hernia repair including abdominal wall reconstruction, and the medical and surgical management of reflux and obesity. Her clinical approach emphasizes patient communication, using visual aids to explain procedures while actively listening to patient concerns. She has particular expertise in robotic surgery techniques and has contributed significantly to the development of academic robotic surgery programs.

Her research portfolio demonstrates a focus on surgical techniques, particularly comparing robotic and laparoscopic approaches to hernia repair, endoscopic treatments for obesity, and management of complications following hernia surgery. These publications reveal her commitment to improving patient outcomes through evidence-based surgical innovation.

Dr. Schwartz is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. She has developed busy clinical practices at both The Ohio State University-East Campus and Johns Hopkins Hospital before joining Yale.
