Mark Walters

Mark Walters is Professor of Criminal Law and Criminology and Deputy Head of Sussex Law School at the University of Sussex. His research examines hate crime legislation, restorative justice alternatives, and criminal justice reform frameworks.

He founded the International Network for Hate Studies, connecting over 1,000 researchers and practitioners globally. His work informs policy at the Home Office, Law Commission, and Metropolitan Police Service.

Current projects analyze community impacts of anti-LGBTQ+ and Islamophobic violence, developing evidence-based interventions.
