Mark Tavern is a Lecturer and Coordinator of the Music Industry and Nashville Study Away Program at the University of New Haven, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences and Department of Music, Theater, and Dance. He also serves as Faculty Advisor for Rein Records, a student-run record label.
He graduated cum laude from St. Lawrence University with a B.S. in Music and Physics, and remains an active alumnus. Tavern teaches courses including Music Industry Principles, Distribution, Streaming, and Digital Royalties, and Artist Management.
His research and professional interests span the music industry, artist management, music licensing, and digital distribution models. His publications focus on music streaming analytics, copyright law, and artist-label relationships.
Tavern has extensive industry experience, having worked at Universal Music Group, SONY Music Entertainment, and BMG Entertainment as an A&R Administrator. He founded a boutique consultancy for artist management and music licensing, and contributed to major projects like the Grammy-winning Duke Ellington Centennial Edition.
He mentors students through Rein Records, a student-run record label providing hands-on experience in music publishing, artist management, and label operations. His media commentary covers Grammy nominations, music royalty disputes, and digital music trends.
