Mark Styczynski

Mark Styczynski is a Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, holding the William R. McLain Endowed Term Professorship in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering within the College of Engineering. His research integrates systems biology, synthetic biology, and metabolomics to understand and engineer metabolic systems for applications in biotechnology and medicine.

Research Interests:

Mark Styczynski's lab focuses on the experimental and computational study of metabolic dynamics and regulation, with applications in metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, and biosensor development. His group uses metabolomics to measure biochemical intermediates in real time, enabling the modeling and control of cellular behavior. This work spans cancer cells, stem cells, yeast, and E. coli, aiming to manipulate metabolism for therapeutic and industrial purposes. The lab also develops synthetic biology tools, including bacterial biosensors that produce visible pigments for diagnostics.
