Professor Mark Stevenson is an epidemiologist and Professor of Urban Transport and Public Health at the University of Melbourne, holding appointments across the Melbourne Schools of Design, Engineering, and Population and Global Health. He is also an NHMRC Research Fellow, an Honorary Professor at Peking University Health Science Centre, and an advisor to the WHO on injury prevention. His research focuses on urban design’s impact on public health, transport safety, and the integration of big data into policy-making.
Stevenson earned a PhD (Distinction) from the University of Western Australia and a Master’s in Public Health from Curtin University. He has published over 220 peer-reviewed works and secured $31M+ in research funding, leading large-scale studies like the FEEDBACK trial on driver behavior and Safer Cycling in Urban Environments.
