Mark Servos is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Water Quality Protection at the University of Waterloo, Department of Biology. His research focuses on predicting and managing risks to aquatic ecosystems from human activities, particularly contaminants, and how natural environmental gradients influence these effects.
- Education: Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry of Pesticides (University of Manitoba, 1988), M.Sc. in Aquatic Science (University of Guelph, 1983), B.Sc. in Fisheries Biology (University of Guelph, 1981).
Servos explores environmental exposure of emerging contaminants, isolation of effect-causing chemicals, mechanistic linkages via Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs), cumulative effects at watershed scales, and risk-mitigation technologies. His work bridges ecotoxicology, sustainable water management, and environmental remediation.
He has held leadership roles in international societies like the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), including presidency and board memberships. His awards include the SETAC Fellow (2018), Stephen J. Klaine Environmental Education Award (2019), and Canada 125 Medal (1993).
