Mark Scanlan is a Lecturer in Exercise and Sports Sciences at Edith Cowan University's School of Medical and Health Sciences. He coordinates the Football Performance Major & Minor and the Human Performance Centre, while pursuing a PhD. His roles include teaching courses like Coaching Science 2, Fundamentals of Football Coaching, and Performance Analysis.
Education: Mark holds a Master of Science (Sport Science) from ECU (2018) and a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science and Football (2014). His research focuses on Football Performance Analysis, Strength and Conditioning, and Coaching methodologies.
Research Interests: Mark’s work examines tactical and physical aspects of football, including goal-scoring dynamics, umpire fatigue, and combat sports analytics. He combines biomechanics, data science, and physiological metrics to optimize athlete performance and tactical strategies.
Grants & Projects: He led the National Strength and Conditioning Association grant (2021–2023) investigating neuromuscular performance under fatigue. Current research explores fight dynamics in MMA and AI applications in football strategy.
Labs & Teams: Coordinates ECU’s Human Performance Centre, integrating applied research with athlete development. Active as an Assistant Coach for Perth RedStar FC’s senior men’s team in the NPLWA competition.
