Fiona Iredale is a Lecturer in Exercise and Sports Science at Edith Cowan University's School of Medical and Health Sciences. She holds a Master of Science in Sports Science (England), a Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Medicine (New Zealand, 2004), and a Sport in the Community qualification with Commendation (Scotland, 1993).
Her research focuses on combat sports performance, talent identification, and aging-related physical activity. Key projects include combat fitness assessment (AIS-funded), exercise programs for aged care, and physiological studies on mixed martial arts athletes. She has supervised PhD and Master's research on topics like dehydration effects in MMA and judo athlete behavior during weight cutting.
- Research Interests: Boxing biomechanics, athlete fatigue analysis, soccer tactical development, and geriatric exercise physiology.
- Recent Work: 2022 studies on punch mechanics and 2020 aged care exercise interventions.
Her articles span combat sports performance analysis, youth athlete development, and sports coaching psychology. Projects have received funding from the Australian Institute of Sport and ECU's Industry Collaboration Scheme.
Labs/Teams: Active in ECU’s Exercise and Sports Science research group, contributing to interdisciplinary collaborations in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and sports medicine.
