Mark Rosenthal

Dr Mark Rosenthal is a Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at Royal Brompton Hospital in London and Visiting Professor of Respiratory Paediatrics at Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University. With over 40 years of clinical experience since graduating in 1981, he specializes in complex pediatric respiratory conditions, sleep disorders, and food allergies.

Dr Rosenthal graduated with honours in 1981, achieving distinctions in paediatrics, surgery and pathology while winning six undergraduate prizes. He attained Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians in 1984 and was accredited by the Royal College of Physicians as a paediatrician with special interest in neonatal medicine in 1990. His professional recognition includes Fellowship of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (1996) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (1999).

His research focuses on respiratory physiology and cystic fibrosis, with over 80 peer-reviewed publications demonstrating consistent contributions to pediatric respiratory medicine. His clinical expertise spans three critical areas: comprehensive management of chest and airway problems in children (including recurrent cough, asthma, and pneumonia), pediatric sleep disorders (particularly non-invasive ventilation dependency), and complex food allergies beyond typical presentations.

His publication record reveals evolving expertise from foundational work in respiratory physiology to contemporary research addressing the intersection of cystic fibrosis management, sleep medicine, and the growing complexity of food allergy presentations in children. At Royal Brompton Hospital, he contributes to one of the world's largest adult and pediatric cystic fibrosis clinics, one of Europe's largest primary ciliary dyskinesia clinics, and the UK's largest difficult asthma clinic.

His clinical team manages one of the world's largest cohorts of children dependent on non-invasive ventilation, reflecting his dual expertise in respiratory physiology and sleep medicine. This specialized unit addresses the complex needs of technology-dependent children while advancing understanding of the respiratory-sleep interface in pediatric populations.
