Mark Micchelli is a part-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh's Dietrich School. His work bridges music theory, jazz practice, and technology. He holds a 2023 Society Music Theory Emerging Scholar Award for his analysis of Cecil Taylor's piano music.
- Education: PhD in Music Theory from University of Pittsburgh (2024)
Research focuses on marginalized jazz voices and intersections between George Russell's Lydian Chromatic Concept and serialism. Secondary interests include music technology, notably developing firmware for MUGIC motion sensors.
Creative projects include composing for Mai Khôi & the Dissidents, leading the multimedia 'Bad Activist' performance (40+ global shows), and chamber music compositions presented at Bowling Green and Music on the Edge festivals.

Teaching roles include electronic music instruction at the Atlantic Music Festival. He also contributes to performance ensembles and private lessons through the Dietrich School.
