Mark Mercer is a Professor of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts, Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He earned his B.A. (Hons.) from Carleton University, an M.A. in Philosophy from Carleton, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto in 1991. His academic career includes serving as Department Chair from 2010 to 2019 and being a founding member and President (2015-2023) of the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship (SAFS). Mercer currently resides on sabbatical in Montreal with his wife, Sophie Beaulé, a Professor of French at Saint Mary’s, and plans to retire around 2028-2029.
