Dr. Todd Calder is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Saint Mary’s University, with a focus on Ethics, Moral Psychology, and Social Philosophy. He has held academic appointments since 2002, including roles at the University of Victoria, University of Western Ontario, and Canadian Center for Ethics in Public Affairs.
- Education: Ph.D. (2003) and M.A. (1996) from Western Ontario and Calgary, B.A. (1993) from Dalhousie University.
His research explores the Concept of Evil through book-length projects and peer-reviewed articles like "Evil and Its Opposite" (2015) and "Moral Spectrums" work-in-progress. He investigates evil's qualitative distinction from wrongdoing, tying it to ethics of care and global justice.
Recent publications address evil's prevalence in political violence, privation theory in theology, and critiques of consequentialism in virtue ethics. His work intersects with social justice themes, including "Shared Responsibility" (2010) and "Combating Evil" (2014).
