Mark McNally is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa and serves as the Director of the Center for Okinawan Studies. His academic career spans roles at prestigious institutions including Harvard University, Tokyo University, and UCLA.

He has received notable honors including a Fulbright Fellowship and the Erwin von Baelz Guest Professorship at Tübingen University. His academic journey includes postdoctoral work at Harvard's Edwin O. Reischauer Institute and research at Tokyo University's Historiographical Institute.
