معرفی
Mark Martin is an Associate Professor in the Biology Department at the University of Puget Sound. His research focuses on microbial ecology, bacterial predation (e.g., Bdellovibrio), microbial symbioses, and science communication. He has been recognized with the ASM Carski Award (2018) and served as an ASM Distinguished Lecturer (2020-2022). Martin teaches courses in microbiology, molecular biology, and symbiosis, emphasizing student-driven projects and critical thinking.
Education:
- PhD in Biology, Stanford University (1986)
- BA in Biology, University of California, Los Angeles (1980)
Research Interests: Bacterial predators, microbial evolution, undomesticated microbes, bioluminescence, and metagenomics. Current projects include cloacal microbiome protection in lizards and microbial communities in tardigrades.
Publications: Recent work includes studies on lizard egg microbiomes and bacterial predation mechanisms, reflecting a focus on microbial ecology and evolutionary adaptation.
Awards & Mentoring: 24 students sent to PhD programs and 5 now in faculty roles. Known for fostering student independence and creativity in research.
Labs & Facilities: Thompson 275 laboratory focuses on microbial menagerie studies, integrating molecular techniques with ecological approaches.
