Mark Lesser is an Associate Professor of Environmental Science at the School of Arts & Sciences, SUNY Plattsburgh. His research focuses on understanding the climatic and biotic factors that control species' distributions, particularly tree species, through studies on range-limits, migration patterns, population dynamics, and genetic variability.
- Education: Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Wyoming, M.S. in Forestry from Lakehead University, and B.S. in Forestry from Lakehead University. He also holds a B.A. in History from the University of King’s College (Dalhousie).
Mark's teaching areas align with his research, including Ecology and Environmental Science. His fields of interest span ecology, biogeography, climate change, and forest regeneration dynamics.
His recent publications highlight trends in climate-driven species distribution, wildfire impacts on ecosystems, deer management, and acid mine drainage effects. These studies often integrate long-term ecological data with interdisciplinary approaches.
