Mark L. Tizzoni is an Assistant Professor of Classical and Medieval Studies and History at Bates College. His work bridges late antique and medieval studies, focusing on the Mediterranean and Afro-Eurasian worlds, particularly Africa during the Roman and post-Roman eras.
- Specialization: Transformation of the Roman world (5th–7th centuries CE), late antique Latin poetry, and interdisciplinary cultural history.
- Teaching: Courses on the globally defined Middle Ages, emphasizing Africa, the Maghreb, the Horn of Africa, West Africa, and the Iberian Peninsula.

- M.A. and Ph.D. in Medieval Studies, University of Leeds
Research Themes: Examines identity, social cohesion, and cultural production in times of social upheaval, particularly in North Africa and Iberia. His current project is an open-access book titled The Maghreb in Late Antiquity with Kısmet Press.
Recent Publications highlight trends in late antiquity, including studies on Christianity in Roman Africa, urban dynamics in early medieval Italy, and the role of Latin poetry in understanding post-Roman Carthage.
