Jonathan Conant is an Associate Professor of History and Classics at Brown University, serving as Interim Director of Early Cultures and Director of Medieval Studies. His research focuses on late antique and early medieval North Africa, exploring themes of identity, violence, and cultural continuity. He holds affiliations with Brown's Departments of Classics, History, and Medieval Studies, and has received prestigious fellowships such as the Ryskamp Research Fellowship and the Andrew Heiskell Rome Prize.

- Research Interests: Romanness in North Africa, Vandal and Byzantine rule, early Islamic transition, medieval violence, and interfaith dynamics
- Current Projects: Monograph on the early middle ages for the Cambridge History of Europe, and studies on psychological responses to violence
His book Staying Roman: Conquest and Identity in Africa and the Mediterranean (2012) redefined understanding of Roman identity post-collapse. Recent work includes analyses of North African saint cults, trauma narratives, and Saharan connectivity.
Awards include the 2017 Al-Masāq Article Prize for Anxieties of Violence. He teaches courses on late antiquity, medieval bodies, and global medievalism.
