Professor Mark Kearney is the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds, holding the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Professorship in Cardiovascular and Diabetes Research. He is a clinical cardiologist专注于糖尿病相关心脏病机制及心力衰竭治疗研究. His work focuses on endothelial function, insulin resistance, and novel therapies for diabetes-induced cardiovascular complications. He leads a multidisciplinary research team and serves on Diabetes UK and BHF committees.
- Education: MBChB, FRCP, DM
- Professional Roles: BHF Research Committee Member, Consultant Cardiologist
His research emphasizes the molecular links between insulin/IGF-1 signaling and vascular damage in type 2 diabetes. Recent grants include £2.28M (BHF Chair Award 2018–2028), £80K NIHR Senior Investigator Award, and multiple project grants totaling over £3M since 2015. Notable projects address endothelial cell signaling, therapeutic strategies for insulin sensitivity, and reducing heart failure hospitalizations.
Awards highlight his impact: BHF Chair Award and NIHR Senior Investigator status underscore his leadership in cardiovascular research. He is committed to training future researchers and advancing translational science through the Multidisciplinary Cardiovascular Research Centre.
