Mark J Fisher

Mark J. Fisher is a Professor of Neurology and Anatomy & Neurobiology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). He holds joint appointments in the Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic, Pathology, and an unusual cross-disciplinary appointment in Political Science. His clinical expertise focuses on Vascular Neurology and Stroke Management. Dr. Fisher’s research centers on cerebrovascular disease mechanisms, particularly the role of brain endothelial cells in phagocytic processes, blood-brain barrier integrity, and stroke pathophysiology. He has contributed to studies on infection-associated stroke, antiamyloid therapies, and cerebral microhemorrhage formation.

Education: MD from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (1975). Research highlights include investigating erythrophagocytosis by brain endothelial cells and developing methodologies for 3D whole-brain vascular imaging. He serves as Director of the Center for Neuropolitics, exploring intersections between neuroscience and political decision-making.
