Dr. Mark Horowitz is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Seton Hall University’s Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice since 2015. His work bridges political psychology, political economy, and the sociology of knowledge, focusing on interdisciplinary challenges in addressing 21st-century societal issues. Prior to Seton Hall, he taught at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley and New Mexico State University.
His research explores political polarization, academic controversies, and the integration of biopsychological and structural forces in sociological analysis. Key areas include the moral foundations influencing disciplinary debates and the role of social identities in shaping perceptions of fairness and justice. Recent work critiques declining academic standards in higher education and examines biases within social science research.
Dr. Horowitz has contributed to Higher Education Politics & Economics, Current Anthropology, and Scientific American, among others. His media engagements include podcasts like Faculty Matters and The Dissidents Podcast, addressing topics such as grade inflation and intersectionality. His scholarship emphasizes the need for methodological rigor and ethical engagement across disciplines to address complex societal challenges.
