Dr. Mark Holland serves as Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Clinical & Biomedical Sciences within the Faculty of Health & Wellbeing at the University of Bolton. He maintains significant leadership roles including Executive Lead of the Society for Acute Medicine (SAM), where he previously served as President (2015-2017).
His academic credentials include:
- MB, BS in Medicine from St. George's Hospital Medical School, University of London (1988)
- Diploma of Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) (1993)
- Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine (1999)
- Masters in Medical and Dental Education (MEd) with distinction from University of Sheffield (2004)
Professor Holland's work centers on transforming medical education through interprofessional team development and acute care specialization. His research focuses on optimizing care pathways for elderly patients, particularly fall prevention strategies in acute settings. He pioneered Greater Manchester's first Acute Medicine training program in 2007 and continues shaping national standards through SAM leadership.
With continuous teaching engagement since 1999 (including University of Manchester medical students), he mentors future clinicians through practical, team-based learning approaches.
