Mark Friis Hau is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication and Arts at Roskilde University, Denmark. His research bridges digital communication, artificial intelligence, and social organization with a focus on labor movements and societal transformations.
His primary research areas include Communication Studies, Artificial Intelligence, Social Media, and Labor Movement dynamics. He examines how digital platforms reshape worker solidarity, authority structures, and democratic processes through anthropological and sociological lenses. Key investigations cover generative AI user engagement, migrant worker identification, and power struggles in digital labor organizing.
Recent 2025 publications reveal a concentrated focus on AI's societal impacts and digital labor struggles. His work consistently analyzes platform governance (particularly Facebook), workplace democracy erosion, and new forms of worker resistance in datafied environments across multiple high-impact journals.
Hau actively contributes to Roskilde University's research ecosystem through the Artificial Intelligence and Datafied Communication (AIDa) initiative and Organizing Communication and Digitization group, where he develops critical frameworks for understanding technology's role in contemporary social conflicts.
