Mark Fear is an Associate Professor and Principal Research Fellow in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Western Australia, affiliated with Pathology and Laboratory Science. He holds a PhD from the University of London. His primary research focuses on systemic responses to burn injury, including bone marrow, nervous system, and immune system interactions, with emphasis on long-term healing outcomes. Key areas include scar formation mechanisms, wound biomaterials, and cortical plasticity post-injury. He leads the Burn Injury Research Unit, addressing both clinical and biological aspects of burn care.
Research interests span thermal burns, keloid pathophysiology, lipidomics in wound healing, and vitamin D’s role in scar maintenance. He has contributed to over 127 publications and secured 28 grants, including NHMRC and LEO Foundation funding. Current projects investigate scarless healing via spiny mouse regeneration and pediatric burn lifelong impacts. He collaborates internationally on burn care improvements.
Notable grants include the WA Near-miss Awards 2024-25 and projects on wound biomaterials. His work aligns with UN SDGs for health and well-being (SDG 3). Though no specific awards are listed, his extensive grants and publications reflect significant academic contribution.
