Ernest S. Chiu

Ernest S. Chiu, MD, is a Professor and Vice Chair of Academic Affairs in the Hansjorg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He serves as Director of the Helen L. and Martin S. Kimmel Hyperbaric and Advanced Wound Healing Center and the Inpatient Consultative Wound Service at Tisch Hospital. A board-certified plastic surgeon since 2005, Dr. Chiu specializes in wound and scar repair, having performed over 2,000 plastic surgical repairs. His career spans roles in New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina recovery and leadership in NYU Langone’s wound healing initiatives.

Education includes an MD from Columbia University (1995), residencies in General Surgery at NYU (1998), and fellowships in Plastic Surgery and Microsurgery at NYU and Memorial Sloan Kettering. His research focuses on adipose stem cell biology, wound healing, and scarless therapies, with over 125 publications. He is a member of major surgical societies and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery.

Dr. Chiu leads clinical trials on wound healing therapies and is recognized as a top doctor in New York Metro Area. His clinical practice addresses both adult and pediatric conditions like hidradenitis suppurativa, burn injuries, and reconstructive needs post-cancer.
