Andrew Stevenson is a Research Fellow at the School of Biomedical Sciences, The University of Western Australia, affiliated with the Burn Injury Research Unit. His work focuses on epigenetic mechanisms in fibrosis and scar formation, particularly in skin and neurological tissues.
- Education: BSc (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Western Australia, 2007), PhD (University of Western Australia, 2015)
- Projects: WA Near-miss Awards, Next-gen cell therapies for skin regeneration, and collaborations with SUDA Ltd on drug delivery systems.
Research interests include:
- Epigenetic reprogramming of fibroblasts to reverse fibrosis
- Molecular basis of scar phenotype maintenance
- Long-term systemic effects of burn injuries
- Neuro-immune interactions post-burn trauma
- Genomic and transcriptomic profiling of fibrotic tissues
His recent publications analyze:
- Epigenetic drivers of skin fibrosis (WNT4, FOXF2)
- Genetic factors in scar vascularization
- Neurological gene expression changes after minor burns
- Platelet dysfunction following burn trauma
- Transcriptome-wide studies of keloid and normotrophic scar fibroblasts
Contributions include 12 genomic datasets on methylation profiling and leadership in grants from the Department of Health (Western Australia). Collaborations span fields like Thermal Burn, Wound Healing, and Transcriptomics, with 6 similar profiles identified in biomedical research networks.
