Dr. Lucy Barrett is an Adjunct Research Fellow at the School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Western Australia. She also holds a Postdoctoral Researcher position at the Fiona Wood Foundation since March 2018. Her research focuses on burn injury, immunology, gene expression, and cancer biology, with contributions to understanding long-term effects of burns on health and cancer development. She has been awarded the Australian Wound and Tissue Repair Society’s Early Career Researcher Prize (2022) and the Australian and New Zealand Burn Association’s Best Scientific Presentation Award (2019).
Her research interests include thermal burns, microglial activation, T cell dysfunction, and fibrotic disorders. Recent work explores lipid profiling protocols, burn-induced cancer incidence in mice, and WNT4’s role in skin fibroblast pathology. She leads or co-leads grants investigating pediatric burn impacts and burn-cancer links, funded by Western Australia’s Department of Health and the Fiona Wood Foundation.
