Mark Elliott is Professor of Biblical and Historical Theology at Highland Theological College, University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), and Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He previously held professorships at the University of Glasgow (2019-2022) and the University of St Andrews (2003-2019). His research focuses on historical theology, patristic exegesis, and Reformed theology within ecumenical contexts. He supervises PhD projects in history of biblical interpretation, historical doctrine, and Reformed theology.
Education: PhD (Divinity) from University of Cambridge (1991-1996), BD (Divinity) from University of Aberdeen (1987-1990), BA Jurisprudence from University of Oxford (1983-1986).
Key research interests include early Christian exegesis of Revelation, Augustinian influences on Reformation theology, and theological method in historical contexts. His recent work explores symbolic geography in apocalyptic literature and the interplay between divine and human love in patristic thought.
He has authored 37 research outputs since 2007, with notable contributions in biblical theology and historical exegesis. His awards include prestigious Royal Society of Edinburgh fellowships in 2023. He co-organized the 2025 Northern Narratives conference and has been featured in media discussions on theological topics.
