Mark Duggan is the Wayne and Jodi Cooperman Professor of Economics at Stanford University and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). He holds academic and editorial roles, including Co-Editor of the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy and has previously served at the University of Pennsylvania, University of Maryland, and University of Chicago. His expertise spans health care policy, government expenditure programs (e.g., Social Security, Medicare), and labor market impacts of disability programs.
Education: B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering (MIT, 1992-1994), Ph.D. in Economics (Harvard, 1999). Research interests include pharmaceutical markets, healthcare privatization, and the Affordable Care Act’s effects. His work has been funded by NSF, NIH, and the Social Security Administration, among others.
- Received the ASHEcon Medal (2010) and NIHCM Health Care Research Award (2011).
- Served as Senior Economist for Health Care Policy at the White House Council of Economic Advisers (2009-2010).
