Mark Castro is a Lecturer & Research Associate in Archaeology at the Department of Anthropology, California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt. He serves as Director of the Cultural Resources Facility (CRF) and holds a Master’s in Cultural Resources Management from Sonoma State University. His work meets the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Archaeology and History, with HAZWOPER certification.

Research focuses on California prehistoric exchange networks, Native resistance to colonization, Gold Rush-era transportation, and 19th/20th century economic shifts. He leads the project 'Filling in the Gaps: The Untold History of Latinx and Portuguese People in California’s Most Northerly Counties.'
Proficient in historical archaeology, lithic analysis, GIS, and heritage management under NHPA/NEPA/CEQA. Active in professional roles including co-lead of the SCA LGBTQ+ Taskforce and Humboldt County Historical Society Board member.
